Windows of Perception
2023 - present
To look through a Window of Perception is to experience the initial moment of AI visual perception — the scanning for simple edges and forms — primal learned forms that represent the origins of visual bias. Said another way, by learning what to look for, AIs (and humans) become biased to look for it. Each transparent window is painted with the initial visual filters in AI vision, revealing AI’s otherwise opaque technical processes and reflecting on their interconnection with human vision.
Bias Reflector, I

To regard a Bias Reflector is to experience one’s own space through the biased filters of AI visual perception. These painted filters represent all the learnings of the visual world magnificently packed into primal patterns that both optimize and bias perception – a wondrous technical feat shared between evolutionary neuroscience and AI. The mirror is sized to fit a viewer’s face and an opportunity to reflect on our own perceptual biases and those of AI.
