See Through Machines

2023 - present

See Through Machines invites viewers to experience how machines first begin to see. Using the original material of vision — colored light — the artist presents optimized patterns that form the building blocks of machine vision. These patterns, drawn from landmark open-source models such as Google’s 2014 Inception model, reveal the invisible forces that optimize and bias machine understanding of the world. The work captures a pivotal moment in the history of machine intelligence, exposing the mechanics behind its evolving gaze. The patterns share common features with the visual building blocks of the human brain, reflecting their universal primacy.
